The Gratitude Game

Day 1

Welcome to the best game you'll ever play.... the game that actually up-levels your life as you play it.

Sometimes life just gets too "real" - too serious, too many bumps and roadblocks, too many items on the to do list. Especially for all you loving women who are giving so much at work and then giving even more at home. It's time to infuse the fun and lightness back in! This is the game that gives back to you - to your lightness of spirit and enjoyment of life, exactly as it is. So let's play!

Today we start with gratitude towards our body. This is a new one for so many of us women. How many times in your life have you deflected a compliment about your appearance? How many times have you berated your body for a feature you don't like or for falling ill? How many times have you taken your body for granted, pushing past its limits, feeding it rubbish or even insulting it? Now let's compare that to how many times you've looked in the mirror and thought "Woo! I've still got it!" Or felt appreciation for an aspect of your health. Or received a compliment joyfully and openly. In today's game we begin to correct this balance in favour of body love. And it's fun!

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 2

Welcome back to day 2 of The Gratitude Game!

Today is all about being grateful for where we live - our home, the city or area we live in, and even our country. And no, you don't need to salute the flag or sing the anthem unless you want to! This is more about grounding yourself in the life you're living... it's easy to dream of tropical paradise and big cosmopolitan cities and to overlook the blessings in your own backyard, but life in these places has ups and downs like life anywhere. This is more about seizing the day and loving where you already are.

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new appreciation mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 3

A big part of any gratitude practice is around people - after all, we're all interdependent and we couldn't survive without each other! But it's not just about survival - our biggest moments in life, of tears or triumphs, adventures or laughter, love or security, are likely to involve others. We can get caught up in the day to day frustrations of the people in our lives at times - feeling taken for granted, slighted or wronged. The problem is, these events seem to get our attention more and they become bigger in our minds than the countless loving interactions we have without noticing.

So today we turn that around with gratitude towards our people. We will not only take a few moments to feel grateful towards them, but also find a way to take it to the next level and actually be THANKFUL towards them too. And the big challenge will be to focus your attention on gratitude for everyone you interact with today. What's that I hear? Challenge accepted? Alright then!

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 4

Today's challenge is an easy one... just love Nature! It comes automatically; ask almost anyone what their favourite natural place is and you'll get a reply. So what's YOUR own personal paradise? I love the seaside like any good Aussie girl, but I love the forest even more. I loved camping in the deserts of Namibia and climbing a sand dune to watching a meteorite shower before dawn. I loved caving and then floating down a river on my back in the Solomon Islands. And watching the sunrise over the rice paddies of Java rendered me speechless with awe.

Of course we all love and long for these "trips of a lifetime" but enjoying nature is something we can all do right where we are.

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 5

Gratitude can be an easy practice when we focus on just being grateful for all the times life goes right for us or when we feel like we're winning... but most spiritual teachings will point to the blessings in the tough times and the mistakes too. No, I don't always believe that everything happens FOR a reason, but I do believe we assign meaning to everything that happens. Human beings are natural "meaning makers"! So even if we naturally wish something didn't happen, or we didn't make that choice or that mistake... in reality wishing the past was different does not make it so. Rather, let's use our tendency to make meaning by creating a positive meaning and a lesson from these more challenging events.

Today we show gratitude for the lessons we have learned in life, the challenges and the obstacles. You know, the events that made us resilient, wise, assertive and downright fearsome! Today sister, stand up and roar and be grateful for - not the event itself maybe  - but for the grit and power you gained along the way

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 6

It's easy to feel grateful when we reach a huge goal or have a lucky windfall (although even then so many of us just move our attention straight to the next goal or hurdle). The thing is though, these big moments are usually spread out in our lives, with many more tiny and simple moments in between. So if we wait just for the grand prize, we miss all the gems that make the journey joyful.

That is why today is all about noticing the little pleasures and comforts that we might normally take for granted. It may be 5 minutes of quiet before the kids wake up, a coffee with the newspaper, or a hot shower. Things which aren't in the headlines of your life, but you'd miss them if they weren't there. Drawing our attention to small blessings vastly shifts our attention from lack to abundance - we can forget just how rich we truly are.

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!

Day 7

Yesterday we took stock of the little pleasures in day to day life - today we take a broader perspective. If you look back over the course of your life, what have been the true blessings and greatest joys? What stands out as the highlights and the gifts?

Once we take stock of the key milestones and fortunes we have had, our challenge then is to pay it forward. When you think about how blessed you have been - despite knowing hard and challenging times too - do you find yourself wishing you could share with others? Today it's time to find some way to bring kindness or beauty into the world. And it's from the soul not the ego, so choose a way that needs nothing in return, not even a thank you! It can be something small, free and take only as long as a compliment or a smile at a stranger, but take the time. In all truth, you will receive as much from this as the other.

So let's begin! Download and save today's journal page before you type directly into it (otherwise your typing won't save) or print it out if you prefer to handwrite. The activities only take a few minutes and are more about going through your day with a new body-loving mindset than taking time out. Have fun!
